Settled by Nigerian slaves of the Yoruba tribe in the 16th century, Loíza is a center for African-inspired traditions, retaining one of the highest percentages of African descendants of all island towns. San Juan is the capital city of this beautiful island. The main central part of the city, known as Old San Juan, is characterized by narrow cobblestone streets and colonial buildings, some of which date back to the 16th and 17th century.
